Neuromuscular Therapy
We create a unique treatment program to relieve pain and optimize movement in Los Alamos
We use an ‘evidence-informed’ neuromuscular approach to resolve pain.
Chronic pain is often caused by tight muscles and connective tissues that keep your body’s structures from moving freely. Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) targets tight tissues and stretches them to release scar tissue and myofascial trigger points.
Our treatment method combines manual therapy with assisted movements to address soft-tissue dysfunction, misalignment and postural deviations. We combine conventional orthopedic and functional neuromuscular medical therapies. Our goal is to find the best conservative, regenerative treatments for relieving pain and optimizing mobility, to promote healing and prevent future problems.
How Neuromuscular Therapy Alleviates Pain
Neuromuscular therapy works by applying varying degrees of pressure to palpable taut bands in the muscles. By applying quasi static pressure to different parts of the muscle, pain receptors are inhibited, and muscle metabolism is optimized by activating muscle sensory organs. The hands of the neuromuscular therapist are trained to feel for changes in muscle tissue, and to gradually eliminate muscle imbalances by applying precise manual pressure that releases taut tissues.
Our postural therapy is based on the concept that pain, both chronic and acute, is due to misalignment in the body as it loses its optimal posture.
We use a series of gentle exercises and stretches to return musculoskeletal balance and symmetry back to your body so that your muscles will be reeducated to function and maintain proper alignment allowing you to get back to a more active lifestyle.
The foundation of human posture is developed during the first year of life, as an infant gradually learns to defy gravity and begins to stand and walk. Optimal posture distributes your body mass in ways that minimize structural wear and tear.
Over time, bad habits, repetitive movements and injuries can throw your spine and joints out of alignment, increasing wear and tear that lead to pain and dysfunction.
Posture restoration retrains your body to automatically assume optimal alignment, for efficient pain-free movement.
